James Yapp, Age 22
Guardsman, 21623, 3rd Battalion, Grenadier Guards.
James was the son of James & Sarah Yapp who in 1901 were living at 44 Stable Row, Lightmoor.
James had been employed at the Coalbrookdale works and on June 14th 1913 at the age of 17 years & 10 months enlisted into the 4th Battalion (Territorial’s) KSLI (No1907) he attended annual training at Porthcawl 08/08/ 13 and was mobilised on the 05/08/14 and was posted to Depot on the 08/10/14.
James was discharged on 16/10/14 aged 18 years & 53 days as being unfit for duty. This did not stop James and he immediately re-enlisted into the 3rd Grenadier Guards and given the number 21623
He was killed in action aged 22 alongside another Dawley Guardsman Private J. Brookbanks on the 27th November 1917 and his name appears on the Cambrai Memorial, panel 2
